Blacklight Aquarium

Well I have had my blacklight aquarium set up for a little while now. I dont note any problems with the fish health wise but they dont seem as active as other fish I have in other tanks. My main comparison is with my fancy guppie that is in there. I have 2 fancy guppies in another tank and the activity differs extremely. Is this related to a lack of light and the fish is reducing it's sensors more? I know fish dont "sleep" but they do shut down parts of their system. Anyone have any ideas?

Funny to see this thread, as I recently found a kit that includes a blacklight as part of it.

Moon Glow

It is sold as a betta habitat at the Petco near me, but I didn't like how small it was, so I opted to make my betta his own setup. I changed my avatar picture to show how his bowl looks now.

I decorated his bowl with brightly colored rocks and a UV reactive silk plant. I completed the setup with a flexible desk lamp and a 13 watt flourescent blacklight bulb. I work in a dark office, so it's a very cool addition to my desk. :)

As far as activity, he actually seems more active now than he used to. He used to stay at the top of his bowl, occasionally resting on the plant, but now he travels all over his bowl, often going down near the bottom. I think maybe he likes the glowing rocks. ;)

During the last few hours of the night I put the white eclipse bulb back in that came with the hood and, well, yea... the fish were definately more active. Maybe it doesnt harm them but they just dont know how to respond to it. I'm sure its very different than their natural habitat. I think we're gonna keep the white light in. We (my family) were all very excited about the idea of this tank but it flopped and we all ended up very dissapointed. We are enjoying it alot more with the white light. Just looks more vibrant and active. To anyone thinking of playing around with a 10g tank with a black light... dont think Id go for it... tho I must say that a smaller tank really might look good for something such as the beta.

For some reason I went deep down into the archives of my User CP and forgot about this thread. I was just curious how SoCal has made out with his black light aquarium as well as anyone else who made have tried it. Im mainly wondering if there are any black light tanks in operation now.
