What is the exact scientific name of the black mystery snail?

The link doesn't name the scientific name of the black mystery snail, but thanks anyways.

The link is right. A lot of pet stores label them as Mystery snails or put the color before the name such as black, gold, ivory etc but they're actually called Apple snails with the scientific name Ampullariidae. They come in all sorts of colors ranging from light pinks to very solid dark blacks or purples.

It's kinda like neocaridina heteropoda. There's red ones called red cherry, there are blue ones called blueberry, there are white ones called snowball. In the end, they're all the same shrimp, will have absolutely no difficulty cross breeding, but are basically line bred for color. Same thing with those snails. I just gave you that link because it covers a lot of information briefly, and I wasn't sure what your end goal was, so thought the additional information may be useful.

I understand that black mystery snails are truly apple snails. I just need the exact scientific name, much like the scientific name of the neon tetra is paracheirodon innesi and the scientific name of a Japanese trapdoor snail is viviparus malleattus.

Ahh I should have known what you ment but was having a blonde moment. The species most often found in lfs's are Pomecea diffusa but there are other species in that genera.

Edit: I wanted to find it first but here's a really good website I used back when I bred them. It's loaded with information on how to identify species of apple snails. http://www.applesnail.net/

Is it diffusa or bridgesii? I call them pomacea bridgesii (brigs for short).

I'm pretty sure those two are golden apple snails.

I understand what you're saying. I don't think there is a different scientific name for black vs. golden vs blue mystery snails, much like the difference between dwarf shrimp. Mystery snails are pomacea bridgesii. Diffusa is for the spiked, I think. Oh look. From that wiki link:

The most common apple snail in aquarium shops is Pomacea bridgesii, also called Pomacea diffusa, (the spike-topped apple snail). This species comes in different colours from brown to albino or yellow and even blue, purple, pink, and jade, with or without banding...Apple snails are often sold under the name "golden (ivory, blue, black...) mystery snail"

Another example is poecilia sphenops. Black molly? Dalmation? Same fish species, different color variants that use the same latin name. Another example? Yellow and chocolate labrador retrievers; both are canis familiaris. You can even go so far as to apply that same latin name to the very different looking German Shepherd. Same animal, just a different breed of that animal. Where your example of neon tetra and Japanese trapdoor snail scientific names breaks down is that a neon tetra and a Buenos Aires tetra are different species, as are Malaysian trumpet snails and zebra nerites, rather than color morphs or breeds within a given species.

Unless, of course, I'm mistaken, and if so, a correction would be welcome.
