I would like to add a betta in a tank with ghost shrimp and a cory cat. do you guys think that it is an okay mix? also can I mix in a female with the betta? any help would be appreciated

my betta lives semi peacefully with ghost shrimp... he chases them around sometimes but I've only seen him eat one, and that was when I missed a feeding. I have a 10g heavily planted

That's how mine were together for a few months until all my ghost shrimp turned white and died. The stress of being picked on is enough to kill the shrimp.

clearly by the accounts in this thread, and also by my experience, it's rather touch-and-go with keeping shrimp and bettas in the same tank.

My betta lived peacefully with 20 ghost shrimp in his tank for over 2 months.. then, they all disappeared in a matter of days.. i looked closer, and noticed he had a couple of legs sticking out of his mouth. lol.

if your shrimp mean the world to you, i wouldn't risk it.. but if they're 'expendable' members of your cleanup crew, it's worth a shot. you'll never know until you try.

i tried this a 10gal 1 male betta and 10 ghost shrimp, he picked them off slowly about 2 months total but sure enough he ate them all.

thats amazing
i would never think that betta would be able to eat a shrimp. their mouths seem pretty small.
I actually thought about putting the betta with shrimp in a 10g for my kids but I guess thats out of the question now.

at one point I had one of the meanest bettas I've ever known. he would try to nip fingers and tankmates but he never bothered the ghost shrimp I put in his tank.

His name was Grendel and he earned his name in every other respect.
