Hello everyone.....

Simple question for you.

My kids have a betta in a small 1 or 2 gal tank, would he be happier in a bigger tank or no?

could he go into a bigger community tank or would that be a real bad idea?

the only reason i am asking is because i have read both ways, that yes you can and no you cant.

so i just want to know the real answer.

Regardless of the tank you have him in, he should have a filter and heater of some kind and get regular frequent water changes. Bettas ALWAYS prefer more room if you can give it to them, but they usually do fine in 2.5-5.5 gallon tanks by themselves. They also can do great in community tanks, but that depends heavily on the tank mates they have, and the personality of the individual betta. Some male bettas are alot more laid back than others. If your betta is one that has a moderate personality, they will do fine in a tank with peaceful fish that DO NOT have long colorful fins (like male fancy guppies) because the betta can mistake such fish as another male betta and try to attack and fight them. You also should not keep them with fish that are known to nip fins, such as tiger barbs, since male bettas aren't the fastest swimmers in the world, their fins are a perfect target for nippy fish.

I agree 100% with the others, I really reccomend the 5.5g marineland hex kit for bettas, it's a perfect set-up for one.
