I would like to add a betta to my 10 gallon panda oranda goldfish. tank...seems I know better but......can I do it without fin nipping.........

Bettas need warmer water than goldfish, if you keep it in a cold goldfish tank it will not be very active and wont live as long as it would in the proper temperatures. Not very healthy for betta! So it's not a very good idea to put a betta with goldfish.

Fancy goldfish do prefer temperate water more than cold water. But that being said a betta in a 10 gallon tank with goldfish is a bad idea, simply because the tank is overstocked already with goldfish in it. Just buy a 5 gallon tank and small internal box filter with air pump (should be pretty cheap) and put a betta in that with a nice plant.

in agreement with TKOS, I'd also like to say that the food requirements are different for both fish as well.... sure it'd be simple enough to put both kinds of food into the tank but the goldfish would surely gobble it al before the betta got an adequate portion of it's own.... I advise against the idea.

Less time than a pike cichlid but faster than costia ;)

*betta vs fancy goldfish = betta wins by a knock out, 8th round* 8hrs in the match I witnessed held in a 15 gal tank.

Booo Hissssssssssss

bad TJ

ps wasn't intentional... really, but it proved a point.
Most often to "know" is to "do".

pss *disclaimer* Not all bettas will kill goldfish :D
