Best multi-testing kit?

Petsmart tested my water which they do when you bring back a dead fish for exchange. My API test kit said 7.4 or 7.6 (pre CO2 days) and the girl at Petsmart almost wouldn't give me a replacement fish because she told me the pH was 8.4 from the Mardell test strip.

im a beginner with all of this so i don't need anything fancy or anything huge, i only have a 10 gallon tank but im looking for a multi-testing kit, something that can give me the run down of what to test for, something i can do every week or every month and see how my tank is doing and adjust things based on the results. I know there are basics like, PH, AMMONIA, NITRATES,NITRITES etc... i want to get most of the basics can anyone recommend a good kit that gets all the basics and more. i've heard of different kits giving different results so i want to get one that is most accurate. thanks!

API

And ditto what everyone said...it also has the normal pH range test liquid and the high range test liquid...that comes in really handy in case the pH is a tank is darker than the blue on the normal pH test chart...we use the API all the time....

What she said ...........

yeah we use test strips (annoying), but hey, if someone is broke/won't do it its better than nothing. and theres a lot of people who refuse to test their own water or will be like "well i tested it a year ago..."

DO NOT just get the nitrate test kit. You need to be able to check the ammonia and nitrites most importantly b/c those are the 2 that are toxic to fish! API is the best test kit.

what he was saying is that, if you buy the master test kit, the nitrate test gets empty before all the other tests are used up, so you'd have to go buy an individual nitrate test kit to replace it. he wasn't saying that a nitrate kit is all you need.
