I know there are lots of different kinds of snails out there, but I'm looking for a snail that eats different kinds of algae, doesn't breed like pond snails and won't get eaten by loaches or a betta. Does such a snail exist? Thanks!

i would try nerites

OOO!!!! I missed the loach part!! What kind of loaches? Almost all mean a death sentence for snails except kuhli's.

They're Burmese border loaches (botia kubotai). They're pretty small though (maybe 2 - 2.5 inches) and I've had them for over a year. I was hoping if I got larger snails they'd be okay with them, especially if I got them now before the loaches get bigger. The loaches have been in with a handful of cherry shrimp since I got them and they've been fine (though I haven't seen many babies but that could also be the betta). Do you think it's worth trying?

By My Understanding you only mix loaches with snails if you need to control your snail infestation

If you need an algae eater then maybe a bristlenose can work for you instead of snails
