OK, so I want to redo my 29 gallon aquarium. I don't just mean decor-wise, I mean stock wise.

I have other tanks that will be home to my current stock, plus I'll use some stock from my current 29 to go in my next 29.

So, vote for what you think is best. There is community tank, or African cichlids. I don't know much about cichlids so if you pick cichlids tell me what to do :)

Is there an option C? A is way overstocked IMHO and I believe the only realistic African option in a 29 would be shellies (but I know pretty much zip about cichlids).

The skunk loaches will probably kill all the fish & inverts on you list. An angel (or 1m 2f gouramis), platies & the inverts could work. There are often problems mixing gouramis & angels, in a small tank especially.

A isn't going to work IMO. Skunk loaches are aggressive and gouramis and angels don't always get along.

I'd choose either gouramis or a single angel. Narrow it down to a single pair of gouramis too. Add some Cories to the mix, along with your Platies and there ya go. :)

I agree, the only Africans that would be happy in a 29g are some shell dwellers and maybe a pair of Julidochromis (rock dwellers).

Probably? The skunk loaches will definitely harm and eventually kill the other tankmates out of constant harassments! Pangios will work better than skunk loaches.

skunk loaches are pretty nasty, even for loaches. they are also pretty bad fin-nippers, which is not very desirable in a tank with angels.

if you want angels, stick with one, get a school of six tetras (like lemons), a group of six corydoras (panda or skunk corydoras), and possibly a couple of platies.

I also think A is overstocked...but I'd suggest Cichlids just for the change of pace if you already have a community tank. I moved everything out of my planted 29 into a 135, and put nothing but rocks and cichlids in the 29. Its fun to watch them chasing each other.

Just go 1 species, and get the right male / female ratio that'll fit in a 29, and watch 'em go.

I don't remember what I have, but females are similar to yellow labs and males look like demasoni (sp?).
