If your looking for something different for your aquarium then the Electric Blue Crayfish are the invertibrates your looking for. They are so interesting to watch.

These are young Electric Blue Crayfish and are about 1 1/2 inch long now and coloring up nicely and they will become very very blue. Below in a picture of the mother crayfish and I apologise that it is not a better pick, but photographing these is not the easiest thing to do.

How big do they get and will they do any damage to plants? Will they eat and/or kill bottom dwelling fish like corys and plecos?

Greetings,

I have not observed them killing other fish but that is not to say they would not. I also have not seen them kill plants. These are my brothers, and so I do not have them my self. But they sure are interesting and he has not said he ever had any problems with them. They will get about 3 or 4 inches long and of course are bottom dwellers.

I've heard that these crayfish are aggressive and should be kept alone. I think most crayfish would attack fish but I'm no expert.

Yes, this is true of all crayfish, but we have not ever had much of a problem with them. Fast moving fish, such as guppies etc are seldom affected by the crayfish. crayfish do not swim as fish do and walk on the bottom for the most part.

I've always wanted to get some of these but don't have the proper environment for them. I currently have a wild caught fiddler crab that I want to setup a proper home for him but I might consider giving him up to get a pair of these. Do they require brackish water? Do they need dry land or are they always inside the water? Are they aggressive towards each other or other species of crayfish? How many can be housed in a 10 gallon tank? Are they easy to breed? How big do they get?

mine are about 4 1/2 inches and still growing i have never bred them but i have 3 in a ten gallon and the dont fight as long as there are a few plants and a rock or 2

These electric blue crayfish are freshwater and require no salt at all. They are quite attractive and for the most part as far as I can tell are peaceful. They can be agressive tward each other durring mating, but that is a rare occurance. They certainly are interesting to watch at least and like to hide. I have never seen them bother any fish, but most fish are too fast for them to catch anyway. The ones I have are adult size now and are quite attractive.. and my brother has way tooo many... :)

i had one and he was fine with my goldies untill he got to a bigger size then he got dangerous so beware, you may have to move him.......
