About two weeks ago one of my two bamboo shrimp changed from from mostly brown to red and it seemed to stop eating(it wasn't fanning anyway). That lasted about two days then it started fanning again and it went back to being mostly brown with just a light red tint. The other one doesn't show any red. This week the one turned more red again for a couple of days. Now it is only has a light tint of red again. It didn't stop fanning this last time. Does anybody know if this is a sign of wanting to mate or something else?

I have no idea, I've never kept Bamboo shrimp. But for science you should take pictures when this happens and post them here!!

Mine change color all of the time. It's not a sign of them being sick or unhappy at all. Occasionally, if they stop fanning, it means that they're about to molt. Did you find any discarded shells at the bottom of your tank?

No I did not, but didn't look real close that night. They are in a 75gal. with cherry shrimp, BN plecos, and a couple of true siamese algae eaters. It was during the week and I baby sit my granddaughter (3yr. old) after work during the week, so I don't spend as much with the fish unless it is a night that she has interest in them. So if she did shed, I am sure it is gone by now. I was just looking at them a little while ago and it is currently light red tint, and it seems to only be eating (fanning) with its fans on its right side.

Mine also changes color all the time, from a real light brown, to a bright red. Seems to correspond with molts.

My boos change color from EVERYTHING. New food, molting, when the lightbulbs get switched out...you name it. I know mine molt but something either eats their exos or they magically vanish, in six years ive never found more than ity bitty pieces.

By the way, the shrimp that kept changing color, died about a month and a half after it first started changing color. I don't know if that had anything to do with it or not. The other one is fine. The water in the tank checks out Ok. Don't know what might have caused it. I just know it didn't fan as much as it used to.

Well Poo! Sry to hear that. I just recently got two myself. For the most part they stay from tan to nice brown. There was one that was being a tree hugger....well...a crypt hugger as it was hugging a crypt leaf from underneath. It changed color to blend with the shade under the leaf.

Both are brown again and hanging just inches off the HOB output fans a blazin. I jiggled the filter media a bit for them so they can get some goodies.
