Avatar: The movie discussion

Thats the effect that James Cameron actually wanted...He did not want a movie that was constantly jumping out at you as that causes distraction and you miss the movie itself...

The 3D was balanced very well in my opinion...there was enough 3D to make a dramatic impact and to give depth, yet still provide a movie with a great story and good actors / acting..

I really enjoyed the movie at the cinema, and i would say it will prob be the movie of the year for me.

I agree with this mostly. Most 3D makes me a little ill. The way this was done was enough to really suck me into what was (IMO) a mediocre plot and storyline. It was just enough to really let me get into the world without being a nuisance.

I went into the theater not expecting much. Actually I only went because it was a first date and she really wanted to see it. I ended up really liking it though. Basically because it was so superb visually!

Many of you have expressed my thoughts exactly. I didn't think there was much to the storyline and the acting was mediocre but the animation was amazing. I felt there could have been more 3D-in-your-face effects but that there was enough to satisfy. I felt very drawn into the movie which is something I haven't been able to say for quite some time. I too am looking forward to the sequel which I think we all know must be coming. How do you spend hundreds of millions of dollars on a movie like this which is so tech heavy and not use all the acquired resources over again. It would be a pity not to. I would love to see this movie again in 3D but the ticket price of $13.50 is kinda steep. As we all know it's kinda hard to see a movie without spending much more than that.

I thought that while the effects were pretty amazing, the plot was weak and entirely too preachy for my taste. It took a very real dilemma- the destruction of our environment- dressed it up, made it look pretty, and fed it to the masses as if we needed graceful blue aliens, mystic trees, and of course the romance to make it more...palatable. The "good guys" won, the boy gets the girl, and we all feel righteous in the end. I wonder what our native indigenous people thought after watching this?

But the effects were cool. =)

I took 7, 14 year old boys to see that movie......other than that I enjoyed it. We did not have the chance to watch the 3D version as it is not available in my area. I wouldn't mind seeing it again. It cost 3.50 per kid and 7.50 for adults, not too bad.

Movie of the millennium, i heard their already making a sequel...

Hmmm.....maybe it's just me, but I don't think a sequel is necessary. I can't imagine how the sequel would go after the way the movie ended. If anything, Jack and Neytiri probably have babies --- maybe another Home Tree will grow? But what then? Do the evil, greedy, and selfish humans return with even more force power and come back to claim what is not theirs -- unobtanium? I assume the sequel would make as much revenue if not more than the original movie, but I just hope it's not another bad sequel that does no justice to the original.

i think that humans will come back, but with allies from anther species to help. Maybe another home tree, but i think that would be a little stupid. Another scenario would be that humans came back and won, in witch case it would be about some kind of rebellion.

Pity if the Home Tree provided the atmosphere needed for the natives to breathe and survive. Seeing it was destroyed.........

As for a sequel, it would be funky and repetitive if humans did indeed come back and try and harvest the mineral again. I mean we already saw GIJOE bring mechs and guns and try and overpower the natives.
