Are there any FW sand sifters besides MTS?

Clams will do it, but they're hard to keep alive as filter feeders. They generally run out of food and starve, leaving you with no indication they have died until you get a bioload spike. Some fish, like Kuhli Loaches, will burrow. Those do a decent job of keeping things stirred up. MTS are the best bet because they are small. The outbreak is the only issue with them.

Geophagus sp. if you have a big enough tank and appropriate tankmates, etc.

Okay. I should have mentioned my current stock... swordtails and 1 BN pleco, in a 30g.

I'm searching my options because this tank is the only one I have without a trace of a snail, and I'm trying really hard to keep it that way. :)

But if I go with MTS, how many should I get to start off with?

My sand depth is no more than 1".

With 1" or less of sand you don't really need to worry about stirring it up.
You can, certainly, but you don't have to.
Unless it's like talcum powder or something :P

Clams are a bad option. Not only are they hard to keep, once they've burrowed, they don't move from that spot, so they don't really move the sand at all.

Some bottom-dwelling fish like loaches and corydoras will sift the surface of the sand in search of food. Some loaches burrow as well.

1" isnt that much. Corys and RAMS. 30g lil stock? maybe someone else can back my up on my thought. they are sand sifters? 2-3 would be fine? maybe blues or dwarfs?

Corys do some digging, they enjoy sand for that reason.
Plus corys are &#^@*% awesome anyway.

I've been wanting some cories but didn't know if my pleco would like sharing the bottom with them.

RAMS? Clarify. The only "rams" I know of are GBR's. :)

Once the cloudiness settles and I can make sure the sand is perfectly level, I'm gonna measure the depth to be sure, but it *looks* like about 1" which is what I was aiming for anyway.

Grain size == it's play sand.

Okay that was fast. It's definately under 1".... in some spots it's less than 1/2". hehe Maybe I should put more sand in there. :O
