I recently got a female Betta and had her in my heated fancy goldfish tank. They were good together(after the Betta got used to being there) but feeding time was bad. I had to separate the Betta behind the filter(she stayed there a lot) and feed her because the goldfish ran her off and ate her food. I decided to take a chance and put her in with the guppies and mollies(two male guppies and two red tailed mollies). I rearranged then decoration/hiding spots and put her in. They immediately started chasing and biting her. After a minute and it didn't stop I took them out and put them in with goldfish until I can get new tank. One of the guppies started attacking the telescope's eyes and I put him(the guppy) in the quarantine tank The goldfish is fine but stressed. My question is, will the mollies be aggressive to the goldfish? They were very aggressive toward the Betta. I read they can be. The one guppy in there isn't really bothering anyone and the mollies don't appear to be but I'm afraid to leave them alone. I don't want to go to bed tonight and wake up with injured or dead goldfish. What should I do? I didn't know the mollies were aggressive but they and the guppies chase and bite each other constantly. I tried to make the Betta's life better and now everyone's unhappy. Should I put them all back to the way they were?

Mollies pick at the slime coating of goldfish so they shouldn't be kept together. But a red tailed molly? Are you sure they aren't platies?

They were listed as mollies at one store and platies at another so I'm not sure. I was going by what the store I got them from said they were but every time I listen to them, it always ends up bad. I'm going to take the fish back and stop buying from them. If they're platies will they be okay with the goldfish for the night? Them and the guppies were always nipping each other so I'm worried they'll try to hurt goldfish. Especially the telescope eyed, the oranda(Bubbles) seems to hold his own.

mollies aren't agressive, and platys aren't to supposed to be, but if they look to be picking on the goldfish then move them into the QT tank. Or move the betta into the QT tank and the platys/guppies back into their tank. Then go and get a new tank just for the betta (1-5gal min) and everything should be fine. Oh, and Pics would help with IDing the fish properly.

Sometimes those mollies and platies will surprise you. I have a couple in with my guppies and had them with a gourami for awhile without any incident. A friend tried mollies and platies with her angelfish and both attacked her angels. On molly in particular was quite aggressive, while the platies just picked nonstop. I would consider rehoming something. They likely won't be suitable tankmates if that fish picked at the betta.

I hate mollies in general but have never seen them be aggressive when I owned them.

Do you think I should try putting the aggressive guppy back in the goldfish tank after him spending a night in quarantine or will he just attack again? I decided the Betta is going to get the small tank with the frogs. She's been in there all night and they've been fine. The frogs are even coming out and zenning. They never did that with the guppies. They would come out for air or food and then hide again. I just thought the were shy or something. I have had frogs in a tank by themselves that never came out of hiding. Now the frogs look really happy. Can I put the guppy back in until pay day when I can get something else or will he try to attack the telescope again? I don't want to go off somewhere and get back to hurt fish. Should I just leave him in quarantine? The nice guppy(Dracula) has been with the goldfish all night and he just ignores them. I took the red tailed whatever they are back to the store. This is what they were http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3955283 They were tagged as molly in the store but online it says platy.

can i just ask what size your goldfish are? my fancies have eaten guppys in the past when my old guppy population grew too much. i wouldnt put the betta or guppys in with your fancy goldfish to be honest, and why is your goldfish tank heated? my mollys do nip at longer fins on fish, so i certainly wouldnt put them in with the goldies.

They are still babies(the medium sized ones at the store. Not tine but not very big). The tank is set on low heat(not too low) because fancy goldfish actually prefer it(long time breeder told me what temp. range they like). I was actually worried about the goldfish, not the guppies. The guppies(at least the ones I have) are actually quite aggressive and have killed other fish. The one in quarantine started attacking my telescope fish's eyes as soon as he was put in there so I took him out and put him in quarantine for the night but I know I can't keep him there. The Betta and frogs look so happy I'm definitely keeping them by themselves(I'm really happy the frogs are coming out and not hiding all the time:). I just can't get a tank fully set up till payday(even then it needs to run for a bit before fish) so I have to figure out where to put Chameleon(mean guppy in quarantine). Can he stay in tank when I'm here to watch and put him back in quarantine when I have to leave?
