Aquarium background peeling off

I used tape. :)

Vaseline looks much better. Tape never worked that well for me either, you end up with water spots showing up on your back glass. There is product called Seaview that is supposed to do a good job. I've also been told vegetable oil works well, never tried it, I'd be nervous it would go rancid. Paint is also a good solution, if you like solid backgrounds.

It is my understanding that vaseline can make the background appear more vibrant. I used it once or twice in the past but was not pleased with the result. In the end the tape won out. Water spots can be a problem if you are not careful during a water change but that just requires that you have to clean that up which can be kind of a pain because it usually requires that the backing be removed and then reapplied. In the end if it is done right and you have a little patience you will get the look you are after

The water spots are a bit annoying, but I find they evaporate within a day or two, with them taking longer the larger they are of course.

I used vegatable oil. Just a thin coat on a rag. Use a credit card or similar type of device and work the bubbles out. This will take a while. It took me an hour on my 72g and my hands hurt, but it was well worth the effort. As you work them out, wipe the excess oil being squeezed out with another rag. When it is done, there is probably very little actual oil left. Just enough to create the capillary action to make it adhere. It makes a big difference in the appearance from just taping the edges. Here is mine:

I tried a few methods today without any good results..... Tried the simple damp backing apply, tape.... Tape kept peeling off.

Went to petco and saw they actually had seaview, $1 cheaper than dr foster smith even.. lol..

Picked some of it up. I re-rolled my background the opposite way to help straighten it out so the edges stop peeling, and going to pick up some packing tape up from work tomorrow that's crazy sticky/strong.

Hopefully the seaview w/ some strong tape will do the trick!
