it's been awhile since I've kept fish, so I apologize if seems like a ridiculous question. I have two Aqua Clear 500 filters that I used on my 110 gal tank. I've looked online & don't see 500s for sale anymore. I see Aqua Clear's biggest filter is the 110. Did they just change the numbering on their filters? or is this an improved filter? :help:

i think its pretty much just the model # change, the motor housing i think is slightly different (unless its just my small old AC compared to my new big AC).
Otherwise identical.

beware petsmart is stopping the sale of Aquaclear products as they where not brining in enough revenue... IE- thats directly from the petsmart 1800 number. if the stores currently carry them it wont be for long, keep youre eyes open for disconitued sales.

I think that Hagen was trying to make things more clear by changing the name of aquaclear filters to the maximum recommended aquarium size rather than the maximum flow rating. I believe it was just to make things easier for people who don't know why flow rates are important.

The motors are all interchangeable from dynaflow all the way to the latest AC's. The only thing that changes are the impellers. I'm using the motor out of an AC50 in my Dynaflow 3(roughly the same as an AC110.) It took me months of suffering with a bent shaft in the original motor leading to an excruciating rattle before I noticed the similarity between the dynaflow and AC motors. Took mine into the LFS, did a side by side comparison and they were identical down to the part #.

:) I think a lot of people are starting to buy them at online stores now instead of the store down the road. Prices are cheaper at the right place online. Then again I have never shopped at Petsmart so I have no idea what there prices are as compared to places like bigals online. I know these filters are claimed to be a really hot selling item in general, seem to be very popular with people, at least from what i have read. Could be that the stores aren't getting enough comission on them as compared to other filters.

I know at our local aquarium store they want 75.00 for a Aquaclear 110, I thought 75.00!, I can get the same thing through bigals for 40.00 or less.
