Hi Friends !

My name is Kush and I'm from India. Firstly I'd like to wish everybody a very happynew year 2008 - May good bless you and yourfamilies with all the joy and happiness :)

I have a small freshwater aquarium and I have 4 Red Parrot fish in it (along with a few other small fish like a few small gouramis, loaches, eels etc)

I plan to add 2 medium size angel fishes in to the tank but I'm not sure if my Red Parrots will harm the Angels or not. If you could kindly advice a little on this, it will be a great help.

Kindly help me friends ! :)
Thanks and Best Regards and lots of wishes :)

:welcome: to AC!

What size is the tank?:) What size are the red parrots right now? They will reach 8 inches soon enough and two alone can occupy a 55g as the minimum. I wouldn't recommend mixing angelfish with parrots. Parrots themselves are really unpredictable and I wouldn't be surprised if one day they'll decide to trim the angels' fins and harass them.

Hi friends,

The tank is approx of 50 - 60 Litres. The parrots are of about 2.5 to 3 inches.

I have 4 parrots and few other small fish. The angels which I plan to add are much bigger than the parrots. will it be safe ? Can I just try ? or will it be better to add more parrots ?

Kindly advice friends....

Thanks and Regards
Kush

Your tank is overstocked to be honest.:) The parrots are still in their growing stages. I won't recommend adding any more fish right now unless you can get a bigger tank.

I believe your tank is way to small for the fish you have, let alone adding fish that will probaly not survive the nipping that may ensue.

I have kept two blood parrots and two large angels in a 55g tank for over a year now and everyone gets along fine.

blood red parrots can not close there mouths so they will not be shredding any fins they can barely catch their food.

Having bloods an angels is doable but you say you have a small tank. Which with out knowing the size of the tank it would sound like you are way over stocked to us a small tank is >20g.

50-60 litres = 13 to 15 gallons. So yes, that is a small tank, and IMO too small for any parrots or angels.

some parrots can close their mouths, some can not. it doesn't really matter either way because even though they are hybrids, they are still cichlids. they have pharangeal jaws (a second set of chewing jaws further back in their mouths) which can nip long fins easily. in that case, having a mouth that closes just gets in the way.

while some people may have success with this mix, overall it is dependent upon the individual "personalities" of the fish as to whether they will fight or not. even putting juveniles together may work for a while, but as they grow and hormones cause them to become more aggressive and territorial they may fight, and behavior can change literally overnight.
