since i added lighting to my tank, my angelfish has started to change color. he used to be white/black marble and he now has orange stripes on his fins and his upper half with red spots. is this fairly normal? i have seen other angels with this coloration before but i'm just wondering because he keeps getting darker. the lighting is a 48"shoplight with two t8 bulbs in it at 6500k.

I have seen color changes occur more commonly in silvers and wilds.
at times my peruvian angels take on the same coloration as wild Altums. (brown and black)

Color change of an angelfish rarely has anything to do with the lighting as such but lighting can effect their over-all health. Lights of different spectrums will have an effect on the colors you see. Color change of a fish usually is affected by stress, food, spawning, mood, maturity, etc.

do you think it is a good sign? he was recently in my 20g for several months and has now been moved into the 50g, fallowed by my adding the light and live plants. his diet is unchanged, although he is being fed more often now because the kids and hubby enjoy feeding him and he is in the livingroom now.

I agree - if anything, his color change is a positive thing.
When the lights are out in the tank, fish tend to dull/change their coloration. They color back up when the lights are turned on. (You'll catch them looking pale in the mornings right after the timer flicks on)

Ok, thanks.
