Angel and Glowlight Tetra

you're on the right track now

Why oh why is picking a stock so difficult!! The more I think about it, the more my mind changes. Would I be Ok with 5 angels and 7 cories in the 55G? I know that some of the Angels may pair off, but would there still be enough room for the remaining 3 angels if 2 did pair off?

give me 5 angels and I get 2 pair ;)

actually 5 would be fine in a 55..if a pair forms the agression level will go up..but the 48" foot print give a apair room to set up a breeding area(you will lose about 50% of the tank tho.

make sure you have plenty of tall structure in the tank..driftwood and plants will help(real or artificial)

I have a bunch of tall fake plants at the moment (am looking into upgrading lighting and adding real plants) and also have 2 pieces of driftwood. I also found a bunch of large slate rocks outside that I plan to introduce at some point (just need to figure out which pieces to use, and which to break up, some are BIG).

Edit: Forgot to ask, what size should I be looking at when buying any angels? I know I want juvenile ones, at the LFS here they only angels I saw were approx 2" body size. Not sure what type they were, and I have not been back in a few weeks, but I don't want to buy older angels. Also hoping to find non veil angels.

Now to decide if I want cory cats or BN plecos to go with the angels. I am guessing here that 7 cory cats or 2 BN plecos would be fine and not overstocked? Just wish my cycle would do something (new thread for that one!)

Most of the angels found in LFS are P.Scalare..it is the most common since it readily breeds in captivity.

it is also the specie which has been bred for specific traits.

the smallest I would recommend would be 'dime' sized..this refers to the body being the size of a dime..these are generally 2-3 months old..next up is nickel sized then quarter sized..these are all juveniles in various stages of development.
the larger the body the more chance you will see the color and finnage of the adult.if you get them from a breeder(hobbyist or therwise) they should be able to show you the parents so you will pretty much know what body shape and finnage will be.

of course the larger angels tend to cost a bit more.
