Is it possible to keep an Angel fish in with a school of Glowlight Tetras? I know that Angels like to eat Neons, and would guess they probably like Glowlights as well.

I am planning on getting 3 pearl gourami, but if I can't find any may go with an Angel instead (this is in a 55G, inhabitants will be tetras, cories and either the pearl gourami or an angel fish).

Thanks.

It depends on the size of the angels when you put them together. In example, I have 30 or so angels in my 110. They were introduced small along with some harlequin rasboras. The angels are now adults and I still have the same amount of rasboras as I started with.

You can do the same thing with neons/cardinals. I have done it many times over the past 35 years of fishkeeping with the exact same results. Glowlights would work just fine if you introduce them small together.

Putting smaller tetras in a tank with sub-adult or adult angels of course wouldn't work because they would be seen as food.

nolapete, did u keep ur angels well fed and never fast for too long? i had my angels eventually eat my neons when i left down for a week

angels decided they were hungry and they found there food alright

You can do it, but don't be too surprised or heartbroken if a tetra or two eventually go missing - it's a risk.

Thats pretty much what I thought, are there any smaller fish that can be kept with the Angel and not eventually seen as food? Trying to figure out a center piece fish and finding Pearl Gourami is a lot harder than finding any Angels.

Black neons, Harlequin Rasboras - or larger rasbora species, scissortails, penguins, any of the deep-bodied tetras (get lots or they'll be nippy), diamond/lamp-eye/buenos aires tetras, pristellas...

My lone angel is less aggressive than my DG was. DGs are nice looking, but I think they're on the aggressive side.

How many is lots? (I am fine with 1 species) taking into account this is a 55G and the only other tankmates will be a single angel and 10 small cories.

6 is minimum as usual when it comes to schooling fish.

But what is the maximum that I can put in a 55G with the Angel? I had planned on 20 glowlights, but am not sure if I can get that many full body tetras in without being overstocked.

I've always practiced not feeding my fish a couple days a week and never had any problems. They are never well-fed, at least in their minds, as they always swarm the side of the tank when anyone passes by.

So, to answer your question, NO they are not well-fed or stuffed to the point that they would just ignore them because they aren't hungry.
