Ok what is with my fish, EVERYTIME I walk by the tank they all come to me waiting for food, same with the fry I open the lid and they all come to the top. Are fish always hungry or am I just to cheap with the food? I fed the fry like 4x a day a wee bit at a time until they stop eating and then i net the rest and carry on, walk by the tank 1 hr later and there they are again. The adults get fed 2x a day and I feed them a variety, flakes one day, algae pellet the next, tubifix worms the next and tiny pellet food the next, they seem to have no prefernces, heck if i stick my hand in the tank there they are nibbling my fingers. I also see the adults scrouging the walls and plants and even the gravel floor for left over food. LOL this is making me sound really bad isn;t it? HONESTLY I do feed them, do I need to do it more often?

They are all mollies btw, if that makes a difference. I have heard you can feed a fish to death so am trying hard not to overfeed but the little beggars beg for it, heck they beg so well they put my dog to shame.

I was told by a wise fish guy that they LIE! They will do anything to get you to believe they are starving. Kinda like me, never truly hungry, but if it's offered I eat, I am so bad!

I would have to say that they have associated you walking near the tank to them being fed.

I'm not sure if that goes for any fish, but I have been led to believe that goldfishes eat no matter how much they have eaten.

Most any fish is like that. They have us trained really well. Every time we walk near the tank we feel compelled to feed the fish.

I think my dwarf gourami at work would eat 24/7 if I would feed him that much!

He will come up to the side of the tank facing me (5g hex on my desk) and spit water through the little access hole on the top/back of the tank where I drop the food in. It looks like a little fountain. He's begging for food, the little bugger.

I give in every so often just to reinforce the cute behavior. lol

Some fish will eat themselves to death, goldfish being a good example. Others just like to eat a lot. In nature, feeding oppertunities don't come along every day, so they are programmed to eat as much as they can hold (or more in some fish) because the next good meal may be days off. Feed em, and if your fish get too fat, reduce the feedings. Slightly hungry fish are more robust fish, but there's no need to go overboard, and different fish have different requirements.

my fish do the same , its normal , just ignore them :)

I hate flake food!

My goldfish is a huge pig also. I try to ration him...plus it can make the tank really messy.

my discus are PIGS

you can feed them and a minute later they want more..LOL:Angel:

and domestic angels...they are terrible too..oddly not the case with the wild strain of scalare I have..well all except the one that lives with discus...LOL
