Algae Eater

I want to get an Algae Eater for my South American Cichlid tank.
I do NOT want a placo. I have one now.
I need something that will do well with large cichlids.
Will a Chinease Algae eater work or do they stay small.

Placos seem to poo to much.

Maybe a catfish for bottom feeding in the future would be nice as well.

Any recomendations on either.

electric catfish are good tank mates for south americans. most other algae eaters are too small to last in a s. a. tank. maybe snails.

smaller plecos arent too bad about their poop, its the big common ones that are about 6-7"+ that have the poop problem, at least in my experience. so for the algae a pleco that maxes out at about 5" would probably be okay. there are many catfish that can do well with SA cichlids, it depends on your tank size, exactly what cichlids you have, their individual temperments, and probably a few other things that dictate how well a particular catfish is likely to do. what is the tank size, cichlid types, etc?

Green Terror, Pair of cons.
Maybe get rid of one con in the future and get a mate for my GT.
also at the moment I have a TX cichlid as well but I have to get rid of her the GT is picking on her. So I should always have about 3 sichlids in the tank with the con being smallest.

Whats is a good looking type of placo that would work?

Cylon, CAEs can get up to 11 inches or so and live a long time. The FAQ I read says they are slow growers after 6 inches which is consistent with mine. I got him in '84 and he's 7 inches now. He doesn't bother his tankmates unless they start it, then they find out whose tank it is. LOL
