I was given some fish. The guy told me that they are African Sicklets. Has anyone herd about these fish before? It's like they dont exist. I have tried to look up information on them and cant even find a thing on them.
He told me one is female and the other male, they are egg layers and semi aggressive. I have a catfish that they harass all day. Does anyone have any info on them? I just need to know basics, care, water parameters, etc. Thanks

That's because it's spelled "Cichlids" :D Also there are different kinds of African Cichlids. That is just the species they are, I believe.

Omg! are you serious.
Lol. I feel so silly. I had no idea that those were what they are. I swear this guy told me just like I spelled it "sicklets". lol.
Besides I have never had anything else but guppies, until recently. Thanks alot, I will be looking up their info.

That's too cute! :)

If it makes you feel better, I saw the spelling on the tanks, recognized the name, but didn't know how to pronounce it for the longest time. I finally asked a friend who worked in the LFS how to pronounce it. ;)
I've heard people in the LFS call them 'chicklets' and 'sich-lits' many times.

I still dont know how to pronounce the darn name :p
Now I just to figure out what type they are. From that the pics that I have seen, they are more interesting looking.
One that I have is a dark purplish color, kind of plain and boring lol, I was told thats the female. The other one is smaller and silverish with pretty blue dots and lips outlinned in blue, this is the male.
Anyone might know which type they are by the description I gave?
Thanks guys.

You got it. Sick-lids is the pronunciation. And there is a forum specially for them. Scroll up, click on "Freshwater Topics". Then scroll down until you see "Cichlids". I'm sure someone there will be able to identify them. Good luck!

If it makes you feel any better... I used to call them "Kich-lids".

You say you 'had' guppies... Past tense? Those Africans are not going to be very good tankmates with guppies.

From your description, I'm not too sure what you have there, but IMHO, African Cichlids are the most beautiful freshwater fish there are. My next tank will be Africans - I just need to figure out what piece of furniture we can do without, so I have room for the tank. LOL (I'm eying the loveseat, it's about the right size... maybe if I spill coffee all over it, my wife will go along with getting rid of it???)
