After being here for a couple of weeks I have been able to pick up some slang/abbreviations.

Here is what I have so far:

MTS: Malaysian Trumpet Snail

LFS: Local Fish Store

Tankmates: Other fish in the tank

Ottos: Otocinclus


I'm sure there are tons more. Lay them on me!

FOWLR- fish only with Live rock

SW, FW- freshwater, saltwater

RO/DI- reverse osmosis

Zoa- zoanthid

MTS can also mean Multiple Tank Syndrome. It's a really nasty syndrome where you can't stop buying and setting up more tanks, and LBF has a really bad case of it, even for AC.

People get **** from Richard, Peggy from Margaret. Otto from otocinclus doesn't seem like much of a stretch to me. Then again, a lot of people can't figure out how it makes sense that my real name is Eric, but my nickname is Rick...

WC or W/C = Water Change

PWC = Partial Water Change (usually a WC is also just a partial as well)

Photoperiod = Length of time the tank lights are kept on each day (usually in regards to freshwater planted or saltwater reef tanks ...or algae issues)

Ferts = Generic term for any fertilizer for planted aquariums

Pleco = Plecostomus

"L" Number = Categorization number for a specific member of the Loricariidae (basically Plecostomus/Pleco) family of fish. Ex: L180, L181, L182, L183, and L184 are all different kinds of Ancistrus Sp. Plecos.
