Rally Legend Confirmed Dead In 'Copter Crash
Updated: 12:52, Sunday September 16, 2007

Police have confirmed that rally driver Colin McRae and his 5 year old son were among four people killed in a helicopter crash near his country home.

Strathclyde Police said the 39-year-old was on board the aircraft along with two children and another adult.

The helicopter came down at Jerviswood, near Lanark, at about 4.10pm on Saturday. There were four people on board.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) began examining the wreckage this morning.

A spokesman for Strathclyde Police said: "We will be working in tandem with investigators from the AAIB."

McRae became the first Briton to win the World Rally Championship drivers' title in 1995 and hails from a well-known motor racing family in Scotland.

His father, Jimmy, is a five-time British rally champion and his brother, Alister, is also former British rally champion.

Colin McRae is married to Alison and has two children, Hollie and Johnny.

As well as winning the world championship driving a Subaru in 1995, he was runner-up in 1996, 1997 and 2001.

Rest in Peace Colin McRae :tombstone:

Have a look at his website and read what his father has so far said.

You can leave a nice comment on the website too.

Very sad....I would watch the WRC on speed off and on. Not real familiar with all the drivers, but I do know that he was at the top.
