Hi everyone..

I am planning on making an old bathtub in my yard into a pond. The tub is hard to move and we only have one electrical outlet outside..which isnt where i want to put the pond (or it would be in the driveway). An extension cord would be too much of a hassle aswell. I was wondering about natural filtration and waterfall?!?.. anyone ever set this up?

How would you make a waterfall with no pump? Ponds, just like aquariums need water movement, and the wind alone won't be anywhere near good enough for moving the water around unless your pond has atleast an acre of surface area. Also, with no water movement, it will go stagnant, and mosquitos like to lay there eggs in stagnant water.

Get a solar pump/fountain setup. If you shop Ebay you will find decent prices for them on there. They have floating ones or there are ones that the pump and fountain sit in the unit and the solar panel is made to look like a rock.

Tried a 300 gallon liner pond with no pump with 30 feeder goldfish. 20 died then I put in an old aquarium internal filter and the remaining 10 survived. The ammonia built up pretty fast without a pump or filter. If you only did a few minnows or something that doesn't make much waste you could get away with it maybe. Wouldn't it be better to have decent filtration so you could get some nice big fish?

I have done many small ponds/whiskey barrel setups with out a pump. It is possible to do but you have shrink down your fish load and have tons of plants in the water. I have done this setup with tropical fish/live bearers and have had few problems.
But if you do the waterfall you will get plenty of water movement.

Trickster, are you saying that you have built an electric-free waterfall? If so, spill it... How'd you do it?

I'd have a whole lake if there was a river near me. Then I could swim with the fishies!!!

r solar pumps any good, what kind of plants should i put in a out side pond :dog:
