in your house!!
well i was thinking, since life cannont spotaniously generate, where does benefical bacteria come from? i know it develops from the ammonia but where does it come from?

It's typically carried through the air. The interesting question really is, how does it survive long enough to get to the aquarium when it usually dies off so soon after it loses water circulation.

As I understood it, very tiny drops of moisture are carried through the air which contain things like bacteria and spores. It's been a long time since I've had even the general science classes though, so I could be remembering wrong.

Bacteria is self generated from the source we use to start our tanks off. For example, fish poop, food, raw shrimp all produce ammonia...Bacteria will form from this ammonia..part of evolution....as i understand it anyways..

Bacteria cannot be formed simply from ammonia. Ammonia is not a living organism. Plus most of the packaged foods that people sometimes use for starting cycles are packaged in such a way that there's no possibility of aquatic bacteria surviving on it.

well thats wat im saying if theres no organisms at all when u first cycle how do the bacteria develop? another senario lets say you know thers no organisms in your water when u fill your aquarium and put your food in and securely cover it so no air could get in what would happen then?

If it is entirely sterile, no chance of contamination whatsoever, then it'd basically be like a can of soup. It would be preserved.

When something rots away, bacteria deal with the decomposition of the carcass..that is where your bacteria start off from...To cycle a marine tank, i would throw in a raw lump of shrimp...it will decompose in the tank, bacteria will do its role and the nitrogen cycle will start.....thats pretty much fact as far as i understand biology / chemisty...

It has to come from somewhere, to start with...unless the pixy's princkle it in there when i'm not looking ;)
