DooSPX and I have become addicted to bettas. We are thinking of dividing our empty 55 gal to put bettas in. How many do you think we could put and don't you think it would be a nice show piece?

We want to get nice dividers with a space to put a "blocker" in so they can't see each other. We are thinking about planting it and putting sand in it.

thank you spock! did you ever go back and get that betta at petco you wanted?

good for you, I hope you get the one guy you wanted.

my only question is, out of all the standard dividers, I know someone has to make some ones that you can put a colored one down in to block the fish from seeing each other ??

When I divided my 10 gallon I google fish tank dividers and similar searches and couldn't find one that actually blocked the fish from seeing eachother. Maybe you'll have better luck finding one though. If you do find one tell me about it because the divider I have no for my two bettas is just the one everyone sells and it stinks

you could make a diy net divider and use a dark small holed mesh to keep the bettas from seeing each other...thats all i got hope it helps

i personally would want the fish to be able to see each other. yes, they will flare like heck for the first week or so, but soon will settle down. many people say that is is unhealthy for male bettas to flare all the time, but mine are perfectly healthy and they have view of each other at all times, plus a view of my two females as well.

I know this is putting human attributes towards fish, but would you want to spend your whole life isolated from other people?

I've had great success using those colored plastic cutting boards they sell at the supermarket, but I've only ever tried it in a 10 gallon. I safety pinned them to the glass dividers and took them off for them to display to each other. If you could find the same material in bigger sizes, you could cut it to suit your needs.
