I'm getting a 40 gallong "Tall" aquarium this evening (I don't know the exact dimensions however), and I was wondering if you guys had any stocking suggestions. The only thing in the tank currently is a neon netra a clown loach, a small pleco and a "couple of peeaceful tetras". I will probably move most of these over to my 29gallon once I know that they are healthy, but should I keep the Clown Loach and get a few more or should I return him to the LFS? I have no experience with Clown loaches. Also, I was hoping you guys would have some stocking suggestions for this sort of tank. And one last thing....the tank is "approximately 24" tall" can cories live in a tank that tall? Sorry for the long post but I really appreciate the help. Thanks.

retrum him to the LFS; clown loaches get far to large for a 40 gallon tank. a group of five will eventually need 180 gallons.

corydoras will be fine in your tank.

have an angel as a centerpeice
and then a school of 8-10 larger tetras (rummynoses, lemons, or diamond etc.)
5 corydoras (panda, schwartz's, or juhli etc.)

Definitely get an angel as a centerpiece. I have a 37G tall and my angel looks really cool in it. Plus I think he likes to swim more upwards and having a tall tank helps with this.

I have one koi angel and an assortment of tetras, one platy, one clown loach and 2 cories. You will definitely like having an angel in a tall tank. Mine is over 4 inches now. Have fun with it!!

Very cool suggestions. Really nothing to add except depending on your selections, you may have room for some smaller loaches (Yoyo, etc.).

Angel + Nice school of Tetra + Cool Pygmy Cories + a few Yoyos = very nice setup IMHO (and tank envy). :D

I would trade in the clown loach. It will get way to big for a 40 gallon tank. I agree with everyone else about the angel. I would put in there:

1 angel
6 platies (2 males, 4 females-the fry will be good food for the angels)
12 peaceful tetras
8 cories

I'm not sure if this is under or overstocked but it should be okay.
