Hi - was at the LFS last night and saw that oceanic came out with a protein skimmer specifically designed for the 29g biocube - bought it and set it up - my question is: how high should the foam column be - should the collection cup be filling with water? do i have to keep emptying it everytime it fills with water? or will the "bad stuff" sink to the bottom of the collection cup? Protein skimmers seem like a great concept but please enlighten me on their proper use.

Thanks

When protien skimmers are new, its very normal for them to produce water instead of skimmate to start with as they need to run-in...Sometimes it helps to strip the skimmer down and wash it well in warm soapy water, rinse with cold running water and reassemble....the foam should be just peaking over the tube and dropping into the collection cup...When it does fill with water, just simply empty it down the sink....
