hey y'all.

i have a 2 gallon tank sitting in my closet going to waste.
i already have two bettas in cold water bowels one is going on four years old the other is about a year or more. they are happy and healthy little guys.

but im really interested in getting a few neon tetras. how many can live in a 2 gallon? it might be a 2.5, but we'll say it's a 2 gallon. it's just the tank.

so what else would i need to care for the fishies? a light/heater???

anyone know of any problems or facts i should know before i run out and get the supplies?

also, i do not what to breed them, so having more than one fish in a bowl how do you avoid having other little fishies appearing.

thanks so much.

ange.

neon tetras and all other schooling tetras neeed at least a ten gallon, what kind if filter do you have in this tank?if its good then after you cycle the tank you could put one of you bettas in it,cereal is for bowls.

Look into getting some killifish instead. You don't need to have a huge school, and a 2 gallon is just fine for a pair. The males are often more colorful than neons anyway. You probably won't find many in your lfs, but most ship well. With them you will need a cover but not a light or heater. Just join a national club like the AKA and you can get fish or eggs through the mail.

three things:

1) Ok, a 2-gallon is not the best choice for neon tetras for reasons already mentioned.

2) There are other fish, or other animals that could work with your tank. You could get an african dwarf frog, a few shrimp or even move your betta in there!

3) I just have to say HI! to someone else who is from Newfoundland!

these seem much more appropriate, plus prettier I think.

Certain shrimp and snails and a small group of male heteranda formosa would be about all I would put in a 2g.

I agree with you there..... I think you should really put one of your bettas in there. I know he's survived in a bowl for four years, i could survive trapped in my room of four years too. for the last years of his life, please, let him have a real aquarium, with a filter and heater and light. you should get another 2g for your other betta to save him from that dreary existence. and on the neons.... while you could conciveably keep 2 or 3 in there, that would be really evil, as they would be depressed and pick on one another.
