At what age would a Dempsey reach full size. And what are there adult size,I have heard between 6-12in which is the most common adult male size.12inches i think of an oscar ,do they get that big.

It can range from 8 to 12.....first of all the tank size, the food intake, healthy water, and happyness of our JD will help it grow fast. I've had mine in a 90G tank with a 10inch oscar, and a 6 inch convict and he does very well with aggrestion....but for the most part he grows about 1 inch a month.....but you need all thoughs things to help your fish grow into a happy full grow JD!

My Jack...

Is about 2 years old in a 135 gallon tank. He is at least 9" in length. I feed the tank once a day. I also have a female which is only about 5-6".

They get along well with 3 Severum, 3 Balas, 2 Plecos, an Upside Down Cat, and 9 Cori Cats.

my male is 13 inches..took him 4 years to get there..in a 150 with oscars and a jag..along with his female who is 7 inches, and 2 years old

NICE PICS

13in thats a big bad boy,but is that normal for a males size. And lets say you have him for 7 more years will he get any larger.

OK..... a few things from what ya'll have posted. 1st: As I understand it you should only keep mated dempseys in tanks by themselves as they get very agressive when laying eggs and handling fry.

2nd: I am surprised you are able to keep a Jag in a 150 with all of those fish. From what I have heard/read Jags get extremely terrotorial and are 2nd only to Doviis for their ability to kill everything else in a tank.

Just some observations. Great fish btw.

they were all raised in this tank from 1"

the dempseys keep to themselves by the rocks, they dont bother anything..they do push away any fish that gets too close

jags are very overrated, the one have is a 6 inch female, she keeps to herself and doesnt bother anyone, i have had 5 jags in my 12 years on fish keeping, and not one has been overly agressive
she's also going into a 250 in a few months

my 3 inch severums are more agressive and territorial than any fish in the 150, LOL
