Hey there fishy experts! ^^

I wounded my self so I won’t be able to do anything with my tank yet, but I must be patient. I’m inspired to scape my tank by Miss NoodleCats NoodleCats . Thank you and big respect for you! ❤️
As my cut will be healing, I will be looking for equipment to my 125L tank and some nice small pieces of rocks, wood and plants, aquarium glue as well to glue my plants that must be attached.

Lets get to the point of this thread xD

I’m looked at this filter :

Please someone, do tell me if this filter will be good? And which model should I take for my Juwel Rio 125L?

Thank you a Lot my friends! ❤️

Not sure what's available in the UK, but I too only like Aquaclear HOBs if a HOB is what you're after.

They are in uk too, but they still range in price:

I dislike being on breadline so muchh. Oof

I'm not a fan of hang on back nor internal filters for aesthetic reasons,

but. yeah, unfortunately you have to pay for the privilege too, I honestly don't know anyone who is a fan of internal filters. so I would really go with HOB to keep the price down some.

sorry

LOL, great topic. One of those that everybody has their own experiences and preferences. For years I've mostly used the Marineland Emperor and Penguin bio-wheel filters, and I wouldn't change for anything.

I'm not putting down Aquaclear by any means. IME, they allow for far greater customization of your filtration, but are a little more work to maintain; I've always felt the design caused the media to clog faster. If I remember right, you can also control the flow rate of the filter ( its been a while since I had an Aquaclear). They also tend to be a little more expensive even if you spend time shopping for the best deals on-line.

On the other hand, the Marineland filters are quite a bit less work to maintain, but limit you pretty much to the basic mechanical, chemical and biological filtration that is standard for the unit. The trays that you can buy to add another layer and customize your media reduce flow too much to allow that customization to be effective. Bio wheel filters are a little cheaper up front, but there is the long-term cost of the filter cartridges, which off-sets the greater up-front cost of an Aquaclear. The cost of cartridges actually isn't too bad if you buy them in bulk on-line and maintain low to medium stocking levels. I only have a couple of tanks where I have to change out the cartridge more than once a month so the convenience is worth it to me. I have also customized the frames of the customization cartridgess to allow for the use of bulk filter pads and alternate chemical filtration for a couple of my tanks, which has improved the flow when customizing. This was a little work up front but it has saved money; if your not handy though it can be a problem. For my purposes, mostly simple set-ups for breeding pairs and groups of cichlids, Marineland is my preference.

Both brands give great flow rates and, IMO, A+ filtration when maintained properly. It really comes down to what you want in a filter.

I haven't looked back to see what all you have in your tank Sprinkle, but don't rule out an appropriately sized sponge filter and good air pump, either. I actually have gotten rid of the bio-wheel filters on a couple of 20 gallon long and a 29 gallon planted tank I have, and actually have liked the end result. It's allowed for better growth and spread of my plants with no flow from a power filter constantly moving them around. I never thought I'd recommend a sponge filter for anything but a small to medium fry tank, but I've liked the results.
