nonsense. hire a guy off craigslist. these people are great! just hand them the keys to your house, and your fish will be the least of your worries.

So many things wrong with this part of your statement.... :nilly:

Hmmm...fish sitting...could be a lucrative side business! The service could be free, depending on what your TV is worth on the local used market!

Anyhoo, I don't feed for absences less than two weeks. For longer, I have the neighbor who checks the cats give a shake or two a few times.

I love the turn this thread has taken! It reminds me of why I enjoy this forum, it's informative...and fun!

Yeah friends could drop by but a feeder seems like a simple solution. Not eating for 2 weeks seems so long for these little guys.

I bought this feeder because I can attach an air pump to it. Positive air pressure keeps the humidity out of the feeder and prevents clogging. I'll test next week to make sure it works.

Test it for the time period you will be away at a minimum....IMO, better to have a pre-staged amount of food to be fed by a friend than to rely on an auto feeder...

FYI, here some pictures of this feeder.

Zucchini. My fishes have survived many vacations and even a hospital stay or two on just zucchini or cucumber. The trick is not to blanch it, then most of the fish do not notice it until it begins to soften after a couple of days. A plant weight will help it sink to the bottom and removing the skin makes it accessible.

I've tested it for a week and it works great, no problems with moisture with the attached air pump.
I'm about to go on my 2 wk vacation. Over the past few days, I did two 50% water changes, cleaned my mechanical filters, and put Fluval ammonia removing media in place of carbon in my G6. I think our fish will be fine for the next 2 weeks all by themselves.
