I am looking for ammonia that doesnt have any artificial smell to it. Target had stuff that smelled like lemon, and the dollar store had one that was branded a knock off of pine sol so we thought it might smell like pine. Walmart didnt have any at all.

Thanks!

Ace hardware sells plain ammonia. Someone here recently posted that 'Drs Foster and Smith' also sells ammonium chloride for cycling tanks, as well. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=24530

Thanks! never thought of a hardware store. Kind of interesting, if you buy dr tims bottled bacteria you can add on that you want that ammonia and they send it to you for free.

Also, I moved gravel and filter media from my cycled 10 over to the 29 today. But I dont have any fish or bottled ammonia yet. How long does the bacteria survive? Maybe my dad and I can get ammonia tonight or tomorrow.

I heard like 48 hours but it could be hearsay for all I know. I definitely know it isn't very long though. You can always toss a few fish from your 10 into it or pee in it. I'm completely serious about the peeing too

Try just putting fish food in the tank.

Lol yeah I've heard this works too. JM I have wondered after hearing this a few times: how long will it take for it to decompose? I would think it would takes days but I don't know that for sure. Any insight on that?

Thats what I thought. I will put food in, but hopefully I can convince one of my parents to bring me to get the ammonia tonight.

I can't imagine it being more than a day. If you are using frozen (non-flake) food it will be considerably less time just due to the nature of the product. This is also why you should be careful not to over feed...

Just put in some betta min because it has brine shrimp in it. Hopefully they might decompose a bit faster.
