My algae snuffed out my only coral, I don't even know if it's still alive now... tank is in a blackout (for about a week now) so IDK if the coral is alive...

Time for some awesome paint art! Would setting it up this way be possible? I plan on having a fairly deep sand bed, some rock and macro algae in here. I would like for the equipment to be as hidden as possible.

I need to do more research as to how much the tank will drain, when the pump is shut off. this will determine if i can move the skimmer to the sump, since its fairly noisy if the water level is low.

This is a top down view.

I had a single 2 polyp coral. Then the dark maroon scum/algae crap arrived. In a 20gal it took over in literally 2 days and I lost the coral somewhere under it. Tank has been in black out mode for about a week now, as that's the way to kill the stuff. Worked too, very little is left. But the week-long black out may have killed the coral too, if the algae didn't.

This was in response you you asking why you couldn't have a macro algae display tank. Algae will spread, and may kill corals.

There is no reason that won't work but having such a small return area will require more frequent freshwater top-offs.

Why is that? I could extend the return area all the way to the water inlet?
