I just finished the last dose of Maracide yesterday (1rst day, 3rd day, 5th day). The fish aren't scratching on the decorations anymore and the fish that was hiding has joined the others swimming around again (phew!), but I know that ick can only be cured during the juvenile stage of the lifecycle, so how long should I wait before I do the water changes to remove the medicine?

I don't have an answer as to how long you can wait but I read earlier today that aquarium salt was the best thing to use for curing ick. I just cured columaris with aquarium salt and melafix.

Follow the directions with the product.I haven't used Maracide, I use Rid-ich. There are usually water changes prescribed during the treatment. Continue the treatment for 7-10 days after all signs of ich are gone.

Aquarium salt can be used with the marcyel. It will help speed up the healing process ;)

That's the problem though. The directions say treat on the 1rst day, the 3rd day and the 5th day..and that is all it says.

:read:BTW, I have used heat and salt successfully in the past. There was concern with this tank because I have live plants and a baby chain loach (he hitched a ride home from the LFS when I purchased some driftwood). I did a lot of research...which was very contradictory...but there was concern about using salt with scaleless fish. Then a few places said that Maracyde was safe with plants and scaleless fish. Then after I treated I read that Maracyde could be fatal with scaleless fish. He does seem to be doing just fine so far though.

:help:Somebody has got to know the answer to this...I really don't feel comfortable having this stuff in my tank. I am happy that my fish are doing better, but I don't want to cut the treatment too short either. It's hard to judge by signs of infection because I did not wait to see the white spots, I recognized the initial symptoms (which could have been a different parasite but most likely ick) I knew it wasn't ph or hardness flucuations since those readings remain stable and are within the proper parameters and all 3 of the N readings are 0.

Thank you for the input. BTW, your tank setup ideas have been very helpful also...it was your post that first attracted me to this website.
