I'm looking for suggestions on lighting for my 65 gallon tank. It will start off as FOWLR and I might add corals later down the line. I dont want to spend too much but want the abilility to be able to keep some of the less demanding corals later on if I choose to . Price rules out metal halides. I'm looking at power compacts or T-5's currently. These put me at around 3-3.6 watts/gal. What types of coral is this sufficient for? Any other suggetions? Place with good prices, other fixtures, brands etc.? Thanks

Marine Depot and Drs foster and smith have the cheapest prices on lights from what I've seen unless you get something used. Definately look used though because we got a brand new 4 Ft long Coralife aqualight 130 watt for 50 bucks.

I don't like the Lunar aqualights. IMO it would be better to get a normal aqualight and just get a seperate strip or make your own. The moonlights on our lunar aqualight went out pretty quick and they never really worked right in the first place. My husband had to get in there and get them going again and they still go off and on periodically because there's a bad connection somewhere. The light you posted is 192 watt also, which isn't too much for a 65g if you eventually want to do stuff. The thing is it will keep a lot of stuff alive, but the stuff won't grow much if at all.

Not sure what your 2nd link was - it's not working.

The one off ebay looks good.

I personally like the orbitz better than the coralifes. The reflectors seem better and they seem to put more light into the tank.

This is what I have on my 36x18x17h tank. It's 4x96 watts.

I payed $100 less on marinedepot.com but they don't have them on there now. Weird. Can't find 'em anywhere else either now, including current USA website, lol.

Is your tank 4 foot long if so its the same tank that I have and I have clams all the way down to the sand bed, my DSB is 4-5 inches but I was running my T-5's on an IC 660 and that gives them a little more punch. With a standard T-5 ballast you still should be able to keep most anything you want and just put the higher light demanding stuff up in you rock work.

Tank is 3ft long by 24" tall and 18" wide. How many T-5 bulbs do you have in your fixture?
