Dougall is correct, the spin test is that link he provided. A local shop provides it at a cost, I only used it because I wanted a more accurate reading when I lost one of my fish last week.
I've attached a photo of the reading from the last test I did when the ammonia spiked. 0.6ppm was the ammonia reading when it spiked last Wednesday.
The API test kit I generally use at home measures Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate and PH.

This is the substrate I used: https://www.petbarn.com.au/imagitar...gGtO_spbCP2_168Ho4RoCLjEQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

The wood is just some that I picked up from the shop, they call it spider wood. it leached some tannins at first and grew a biofilm that clouded the water but that cleared after a couple of weeks.

The tap water PH reading of 7.6 was conducted on a sample that had been sitting out for around 12 hours

I've just competed another 50% water change and used only my conditioner. the PH appears to be sitting between 6.0-6.2 after that but I will test again after 24 hours.

No improvement yet on the cloudiness. Fish appear to be ok for now as mentioned before the Rams seem to be most impacted, they used to be quite active and showed some amazing colour, they are definitely the centrepiece of the aquarium so hopefully they are ok.

I haven't used any fertilizers for plants since I got them, just planted them straight into the substrate.
