Hello,

I hope someone can help me.

I have a zebra danio that seems to have become bloated in the last 24 hours and become also really bloated.

He has a circular red mark about 6mm in diameter on his gills on one side. it looks like the skin is so streched at this part that you can see blood.

The rest of him is fine (apart from the bloating!) he is swimming and eating as normal.

I have 3 other zebra danios which are all fine.

I have a 35 litre tank with 4 danios, 2 plattys, 2 chery barbs, 3 neon tetras and 1 pakistani loach.

In the last week i have added the neon tetras ans the loach to the tank as a friend is moing house an offered them to me. I put them in the tank as normal and limited the water transfer to avoid contamination etc

I did lose one of the tetras about 24 hours after introducing it to the tank, it was hiding and twitching and its fins started to rot. I gather that was stress?

Anyway, i hope the information i have given is helpfull, and i hope also that someone can give me advice regarding the zebra danio.
EG,

Shall i seperate him?
How can i treat him?

Any help oir advice would be much appreciaed :)

Thank you!

- temp. of tank - 26 - 27 degrees
- filter - ephiem filter
- water change info - Aqua safe, 10-15% every week,

- feeding a pinch of dried food every day

Since i wrote that message (and posted it inn the wrong place) he became more bloated and his scales are on end and sticking out now, the red patch is now a ring all around his body behind the gills....

It sounds like a bacterial infection that has led to dropsy, which is when the kidneys and/or heart begin to shut down due to damgage from an illness or infection.

I'm very sorry your fish is probably not going to make it, but you could try to treat with antibiotic, or if things have gotten worse for him you may need to consider euthanasia. You will need to consider that the others may come down with this infection so you need to watch them carefully for any signs.

Can you post more information about your tank. The answers to the questions at this link can help us try to figure out what's going on in the tank and what might be the best course to take to try to prevent further illness and to help any that are showing signs of coming down with illness.
