My local Petsmart has had a discus in there for months, of not at least a year. Just one...like no one wants to pay the $64 price they have on it.
It is well cared for ..IMO. It is the darling of the fish section guys...they have it on a dedicated filter system, not the one with all the other fish. They feed it special food..and have lots of fake plants and rocks in it's tank for it to hiome behind. It doesn't look stunted...nice shape.
I feel sorry for it living there in that little tank...and having to put up with all the people walking back and forth and have had thoughts of getting it.

I have no way of knowing if male or female. It would probably be an "only discus"...but that's not for sure. What tankmates would you put in with it?

And would getting this fish even be advisable? I've had thoughts to going into he store manager and offering a lower price..this thing has got to be eating them out of house and home..

I would probably end up putting in my 55 after I getting the loaches and rainbows moved over to the 75. Would a single discus be ok with the 3 gouramis, kuhlie loaches rasboras and a pleco?..in the 55...

It's hard to say if I would get it or not (I can't see it). As a generaly statement, I would say no, but, like I said, it would depend on the way it looked.

How big is it?

It's pretty good sized...about 4". Does not appear to be stunted..decent shape. I would think that since it's been there so long that would say something for how well it's been cared for. SHe's hard to see because they have so much stuff in the tank for her to hide behind.

I'd probably have a group of lfs guys wanting visitation rights.

I would think they have learned their lesson...they have had this single fish at least since March..and I've not seen them get any more...

If you really like it and have the want to keep it; I say go ahead. It's big enough to have a good immune system and it sounds like they've had it forever. You could probably give it a better home.

What kind of gourami are they?

I would consider possibly doing a discus only tank and get her a few buddies :).

That seems pricey for Discuss.. at dedicated petstores (aquarium shops) i've seen them at no more then $49 .. but then again I've never shopped at Petsmart and would assume they mark things up a bit.

They're beautiful fish maybe they will let you sneak a camera in and snap shot it for us ? :)

I'll see if I can get a pic. The $64 seemed excessive.
I have pearl gouramis. in the tank I was thinking of putting it in. I wonder if it's been by itself for so long if tankmates would be good or not..even other discus.
