will yoyo loaches go after larger snails?

Hi-

I have two full size YoYo loaches in my 25 gallon tank, both of which have done a -wonderful- job cleaning up the little unwanted trumpet snails that i used to have in my tank.

My question is; if I wanted to get a large apple or ramshorn snail (like, ping pong ball sized) as an addition to my tank, will my yoyos (which are like 4-5") go after a snail that size? I don't mind the loaches eating any baby snails (in fact, it'd be nice to have a constant source of food for them, since they cleaned out the trumpet snails a long time ago), but I'm interested in maybe having a larger snail for variety in the tank and for algae control.

Also, I heard that trumpet snails will eat into and hurt larger apple/ramshorn snails- I'm 98% certain that all the trumpets are long gone, but should that be a concern as well?

thanks!! : )

ah, ok... i thought so, but i figured I'd double check just in case : ) Thanks for your response!

I have yo-yos with my 29 gallon with mystery snails, and they been together for a long time. They don't even pester the snails.

Your experience may or may not vary. Botiine loaches in general, of course, will relish every invertebrate they can find. Inverts have always been in their menu.

3 Yo-Yo around 3-4 inches long, about 1.5 inches wide, with about 5-6 mystery snails.

My Yoyos were fine with a Mystery Snail in the tank for a couple months... then just an empty shell. If you try it, don't be too surprised if it happens. It's in their nature.

Hello everybody.

I Agree with Hooked.
I have Four 3-year old yoyos about 4-6" inches. I put some Large apple Snales in my 55 gal. It took the Yoyos about a month to figure out how to get into there shell without hurting them selfs when the snail closes up. One way or another the Loach will eat them, thats one of there natural food sources, I believe.
