Why Do People Have Fish Rooms Rather Than Tanks in Regular Rooms?

I've been wondering why people have fish rooms, rather than tanks in living spaces.

How much time do you spend in the fist room observing the fish? Do you have comfy furniture - seating and tables - and nice decor?

Is it a social space for family and friends or one for you to commune with your fish alone?

If it's not a comfy, social space, why to you have a fish rooms instead of tanks in the living area? How much time do you spend there gazing at your fish?

Thanks.

I can't wait til I have a fish room. It will be mostly for breeding stock. No more racks of tanks in the guest bedroom. I'll probably always have my show tanks dispersed throughout my place though.

It's the final stage of an MTS affliction.

most people who have fish rooms also have fish tanks in other areas. also having tanks in a central place allows you to set things up in a way such as central filtration auto water change system and so forth.

Because its a PITA feeding 3 tanks over here, another one 20 feet away and another 3 nearly 100 feet away. I cannot wait till I can get a fish room..

sometimes having a proper location with the right tools for the job makes your wishes possible. imagine if this guy was trying to keep all his critters in his house in display units in social rooms...

that would be a nightmare. some of the guys here get to the point their bordering the same type of insanity... but with fish... which are admittedly a little more difficult to house and care for. a fish room just makes it all possible without a lot of the hassle otherwise involved.

It makes maintenance so much easier having everything in a central location. Plus, you are able to keep all of your equipment (and then all that "fish junk" such as spare parts, decor that is not in use, extra light bulbs, plastic bits of this and that) in one place where it is not cluttering up the other living spaces.

The tanks are usually more utilitarian in nature. Most people with fish rooms also have large display tanks throughout their house that are decorated and set up with attractive furniture, rather than racks full of small tanks. Take a look at this pic:

No matter how big her house may be, there's probably no way she could scatter all those tanks throughout her living area!

Think of it as like a greenhouse. Most people who have greenhouses also have gardens. However they need a place to work on propagation, growing from seed, etc. The "utility" aspect of gardening.

The people who make a business out of it need the space for dozens of tanks without worrying about looks or whether it matches the decor.

The people who just have a lot of tanks need to minimize maintenance.

The people with spouses that tend to frown on turning the walls into glass cubes filled with fish (and maybe water) need someone to hide when the credit card bills arrive. :evil_lol:
