I have had 2 for about 6 months in a community tank and so far they seem to be Ok. When I added Discus thhey did however go into hiding(in a building) and only come out when its feeding time. Before the Discus were added they still hid in the plants, but were at least somewhat visable.

meow91,pics would be helpful.

I can't get a good picture. I am not good at taking pics of my fish yet. Still learning that trick. Its not cottony, its just like the transparent turns cloudy.

Sounds like the fish are stressed... or dying.
There's an unidentified tie between the white patches you see and the fish being stressed or dying. Some believe that whatever causes the fish to be transparent will cease to work as the fish is dying. None of this, however, has been proven.

Just my 2 cents.

Well, I don't know about proving why, but they certainly do loose the transparency when they die, as well as when stressed (to a lesser degree).

If their body just looks white, cloudy and milky, it could be this. But if it's a distinct "patch" area it is probably something else.
