I have a 55 gallon tank that's lightly planted. So far I have a few ramshorns and 5 zebra danios. I wanted to buy a shrimp so I went to Petco and saw they had bamboo shrimp and whisker shrimp so I picked up a whisker shrimp. I just found out that whisker shrimp are predatorial and eat fish. Now I'm worried they will eat my zebras. Does anyone know if they will?

Also, do whiskers clean the tank well? and when I add more fish, what kinds might be compatible with such a shrimp?

About two years ago (before I found my LFS) an employee at Pets Supply Plus managed to convince me they were just "grown up" ghost shrimp....the next day fish started disappearing out of my tank: mollies, danios, no one was safe from those guys! They didn't even leave scraps behind...

Perhaps you may want to return the shrimp and exchange for something else just to be safe? I've heard mixed reviews about these shrimp. Some can wipe out the inhabitants of a tank and others will only try to attack fish. I would keep your eyes peeled and intervene if violence erupts.

Thanks for the advice. Does anyone know what tempertures they need or if they need filtered water because I might give him his own tank.

I personally love my whisker shrimp, they are so fun to watch. I have them in my cray tank with a few male guppy/endlers, and haven't had a problem. This tank is also a 20T so, that may make the difference.

haha yea. they are very cool to watch. Mine just molted too!
But if anything happens I'm probably going to move him to his own tank.
