What's the smallest type of oscar?

ILOVEBETTAS

It's Cory Lover's cat!
I really desperately want one, but I can't get a huge tank... at least NOT right away. Does anyone know of a smaller oscar that doesn't grow too fast? (Or at least a smaller oscar)... THANX :)

sorry to tell you but there isnt one, there all big so if you dont have a big tank i dont recomend you getting one

All oscars are the same species of fish, Astronotus ocellatus. There are different strains though (tiger, albino, etc.), but because they are all the same fish, they'll all atain the same large size.

the avg oscar will get to 12"-13" inches. well feed, well housed, and well taken care of oscars will get to be 14 inches - I would say 16" is rare

this is true if the oscar is raised in a less than optimal environement.-read this as stunting.
or some females may not get as large as some males..and there are also possible genetic problems that may lead to a 'smaller' fish.

but in general, most oscars have the 'potential' to get over 12" in length.

i didnt mean something like albinos get 16 and the rest get 12. just saying some might get fed and cared for better than others.
thats all
