i have been trying to search engine this info and not have ady success, plus i would much rather get peoples opinions. i have a new 29gallon tank for my two goldfishies and i want real plants instead of fake. any suggestions.

Goldfish are diggers, so whatever you put in there make sure you anchor them with rocks around the roots and stems.

ATM I can't recommend anything as I'm doing a trial myself :)

In the past my goldfish haven't really eaten plants, just nibbled at the floating watersprite, but that's it. I haven't had a lot of different plants with them, though.

I've got hornwort and moneywort in there now, anchored with large "pebble" gravel. Under that is a layer of Flourite.

Thus far they haven't touched them *knocks on wood*

One thing you can try are potted plants. Don't remove the pots, plant the whole thing in the tank and put rocks in the pot. That way you'll see if they eat them without a big mess and if they dig them up, you can easily replant them.

My goldfish have dug up and nipped on anything I threw in their tank ranging from hornwort to anacharis. Java Fern seems to be the only successful plant for Goldfish tanks though you will need to secure it quite well in order to prevent them from digging it up. I am starting to give up on decorating my goldfish tank as they dig up and eat anything living put in that tank.
