What loach should I get for snail control?

I have read that for snail control a loach would be the way to go.

I am building a planted tetra type of tank. 30 gal and all the plants at every lfs has small snails all over them.

I thought about Black Kuhlii Loach (Pangio sp.) Would this help with the snails?

Thanks for any help on this.

Many years ago when I had my first 2.5 gal Wal-Mart aquarium I had one of these with 2 neons. Then as I moved up to a real aquarium he/she moved up with it.

This fish would disappear at times and I finally figured out it was swimming up the return of my filter and staying between the media and the filter wall. This was in a 15 and then a 20 gal aquarium.

It was with me for a little over 3 years.

Now I wonder if it would have lived longer had it been in the suggested 50 gal aquarium. It maxed out at around 4 inches.

Ditto Zig.

To answer your question I know that Yoyo loaches will work but you will need at least three for them to be happy fishies and mine have grown to 5" to 6" in length (ie. 30G will not function).

Skunks, Angelicus Botia... all the thicker bodied ones eat snails (I think), but they all get too big to have a group of them in a small tank.

If you've no need of any other fish in said tank, you could look into a dwarf puffer, or better yet, just feed & remove them.

Kuhlii Loaches don't eat snails sadly. But you can try to get some zebra loaches. They seem to stay small. I have some sidimunki loaches at home. And they are super cute and they stay really small. but they cost me about 23 bucks a piece. =[ but i work at a LFS so i get discount =D

We got Yoyo Loaches in ours (200L) and they got rid of all the snails in no tome. Cool to watch too.

From what I have read, Clown Loaches devour snails. I was going to get one until I read, "Clown loaches will shuck your snails as fast as you can throw them in the tank. Put on your waterproof lipstick and kiss your mystery snails goodbye!"

They are so cool to look at but I am too attached to my mystery snails;)

Not to mention the fact that they can grow to 16+ inches!
