What is this my sword plant is growing?

I just noticed that the center of my sword is growing these tentacle looking things. It doesn't look like typical leaves growing out. I just trimmed most of the larger leaves off recently, so this may be the reason for this new growth.

Anyone know what is going on?

The pic is kind of blurry, so if you can't tell what it is I can try to get a better one. They are long and round, and resemble the pistols of a flower.

Those will probably form seedlike things and develop into several adventitious plantlets. It is essentially the mother stalk. My swords sent one of those up, directly out of the water, where those frilled parts grew and flowered. They then turned into the baby plants

That is really cool. It would be great if I could get some baby plants from it to put in my 20g. Were you able to keep any of the young plants that grew from yours?

Yes, I had several that were perfectly fine to keep - although I gave them away and threw some out, honestly. No more room!

Well, this picture should answer your question hehe! It got way too big. I took it out. In the process, I also had to remove the lotus plants since the roots where intertwined. That was sad since they had more flower buds (there should be some lotus blossom pics on my site's front page)...

Bear in mind, that's a 55g tank...

EDIT*: Simon, I tried to find a good picture and it doesn't seem that I kept any. I wanted to show you all the babies that grew off of the stalk, but no real luck. I had some that grew submerged and some that grew emersed (the stalk was heavy and bent itself back into the water). This is the best I could find..

Mine just started doing that. I have a fairly large baby right now taht I don't know what to do with and I cut one off for my brother.
