What is a powerhead for?

just to move water around the tank. In my 55 I have an AC500 on one end, a 150 on the other end, and a powerhead that pushes water from the 150 end to the 500 end. probably unneccesary but I had it laying around... might as well use it:)

You can modify a power head to do just about any type of water tranfering. I have 3 in my 55...2 are use as spone filters and the other is a giant aerator. I also use one to move water from buckets to tanks during water changes. You can add a powerhead to the stand pipe of an undergavel filter to make the filter more efficient. Lots of things to do with a powerhead. I use Maxi Jet 600's They move a bunch of water are reliable and are quite adaptable

Powerheads are also used to power UGF filters, and RFUG set-ups. Far more consistant and quiet than the air pumps and stones.
