What is a good type of food?

Hi, I was just wondering what type of food would probably work best for the type of fish I have. I currently use TetraMin Tropical Flakes 2x a day and in the evening with the second feeding I add in a few Aquarian Bottom Feeder Sinking Shrimp Pellets. Now all the fish but the cories seem to eat the flakes. I am sure when they reach the bottom they eat alittle. When I add the Shrimp Pellets the barbs and tetras seems to eat them also. I am not sure as to how much the cories are getting as the barbs and tetras will actually pick up the whole pellet and carry it in there mouths until it starts to disolve. I don't mind getting food that costs alittle more but I want to make sure all the fish get fed and they are getting the right type of food for them. Also just to let you know when I feed them I turn off all filters to allow the food to not get sucked up in the filters. I wait for about 10-15 minutes after feeding to turn them back on. Any ideas would be great or if I am doing enough let me know. Thanks

There are a couple things I do to make sure all the fish get their food, especially my cory's who aren't agressive and have to put up with a pushy gourami and a swarm of danios stealing their food.

1) I'll put a couple bloodworms on the surface to catch the non-bottom
feeders' attention, drop in the sinking stuff, then spread the usual
flakes. That way the topfeeders don't go chasing the sinking food
immediately.

2) Along with the shrimp pellets (or alternating depending on how much
I'm feeding), I use one of the larger general bottom-feeder tabs.
Since they're fairly large, I generally crack them into a couple pieces.
This gives more smaller pieces so everybody has a decent shot at
getting at least some of it.

3) I have a thicket of rotala indica (short bushy plant) that the corys
tend to hide in, but is to thick for the gourami to get into. I'll drop a
pellet or wafer in there in the evening. The gourami won't fit, the
danios aren't interested in feeding in the evening after lights are off,
and so far I haven't seen my nuisance of a CAE beat his way into that
thicket either.

When you can, try new things for your fish. Most fish will like the tubifex worms, but my fish did not like the Wardley brand. These are little squares you squish against the glass of your tank. My cory cats go mad over them. They like the Hikari and Omega One brands. You should only feed these once a week though. They are fatty and messy. Also, look at the ingredients of your flake food and try and get a brand that does not have fish meal as the first ingredient. Fish meal is a filler and binding ingredient that is usually not nutritious. Omega One and New Life Spectrum are good brands to look for. The fish meal is not bad for your fish, just not nutritious. You might also want to look at some sort of veggie flakes or pellets just to feed once a week if your fish are carnivores, or more often if they need veggies in their diet. This will help keep them from getting constipated. Daphnia is also good for this. The veggie wafers are also good for all your fish in a community tank. My fish prefer the Omega One veggie rounds.

when my betta kills a snail and is eating it, it's almost like watching the seringeti plain underwater! the leopard (my betta) has just killed a warthog (a snail) , and is eating it's fill as fast as possible, for a flock of vultures (glowlight tetras) are on the prowl and looking for an easy meal. suddenly, the leopard is surrounded by hungry vultures, trying to run in and grab a bite before the leopard can smack them away. quickly, to defend his precious kill, he charges head-on into the vulture flock, sending them scattering. the vultures will have to wait their turn. later, with his belly full of warthog meat, the leopard climbs a tree (amazon sword) for a nap in the shade. with the kill to themselves, the vultures eat their fill, and a jackal (zebra pleco) comes to share the vultures feast. they eat so ravenously, that by the time they are done, all that is left is a skeleton (shell).
ah, my friends, such is the way of the savanna :D (tank).
